CNC Machining & Design

Leading Edge Machine & Design hired me as an industrial designer. During my time there I worked with clients, concept artists and our in house machinist to design functional and decorative parts for various high profile hot rod builds. Here I gained a much greater understanding of how to design parts for easier CNC manufacturing through working directly with a machinist. I can now create surfaces, part interactions and tolerances, threaded parts and make choices that both speed up the manufacturing process and create a better final part. I also learned how to integrate 3D scanned data into my workflow to create products that interact with existing fixtures and surfaces smoothly.

One of my favorite projects was a bottle opener for a custom motorcycle builder turned whiskey distiller. This project was fulfilling because I had to work within brand standards, and create a multi piece multi material functional object that was quick and easy to machine in a large volume. While at LEMD I also redesigned their entire website to better reflect the brand and elevate the online presence. This included rethinking the visual identity and brand colors, page layout and copywriting.
